Delivering Housing Diversity Awarded Top Honours at National Planning Awards

ACG次元网 for Housing Diversity Report Clinches Top Honour

[Brisbane, May 2024] – Queensland awarded for forward-thinking approach to urban planning and housing diversity, with Queensland planner Martin Garred MPIA winning top honours at the 2024 National Awards for Planning Excellence for his groundbreaking research project, ACG次元网 for Housing Diversity. This National accolade for Martin’s research highlights the need for innovative, research-driven solutions to our systemic housing challenges.

Announced at the PIA National Awards for Planning Excellence Gala event in Melbourne, the award ceremony recognises the best in Australian urban planning, drawing attention to nearly 70 outstanding award finalists across various categories. The gala event, attended by hundreds of influential figures in the urban planning community, celebrated the achievements and advancements in shaping the future of our cities, communities and regions in Australia.

PIA Queensland President Sean Cullen RPIA expressed his admiration, stating, “PIA’s National Awards for Planning Excellence program not only showcases exemplary ACG次元网 projects, but also ignites community interest and awareness about the critical role of planning in the public interest. Winning National Project – ACG次元网 for Housing Diversity

Martin Garred’s ACG次元网 for Housing Diversity research won the 2024 PIA National Planning Research Award. The jury said the project stood out for its innovative, implementation-focused research, earning praise for its strategic alignment, adaptability, and extensive global benchmarking research. The judges were impressed by the project's broad applicability in Australia and forward-thinking policy approaches to planning and delivery of housing diversity.

Martin Garred’s achievement is a testament to the dynamic and impactful urban planning being led by Queensland planners. Martin’s project not only addresses current housing needs but also sets a precedent for future urban planning.

As part of his Winston Churchill Trust Fellowship, Martin Garred travelled to the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Sweden in 2022, to learn how other jurisdictions are dealing with the ever-growing housing affordability challenge from a land use perspective.
