About the Role
The Sunshine Coast Council continues to take a lead role in shaping a prosperous future for our community. The Strategic Planning Branch plays an integral part in this, being responsible for the development and management of strategic land use ACG´ÎÔªÍø policy and the Sunshine Coast ACG´ÎÔªÍø Scheme, shaping the future of the region.
The Senior Strategic Planner works as part of a highly effective and motivated team to assist in achieving identified project milestones and outcomes, whilst also providing mentoring and professional support to other strategic planning employees.
Through consultation with the community and government agencies, the role is responsible for the development of integrated land use policy that aligns with Council’s vision for sustainable growth management and forward planning.
You will be required to prepare or contribute to the development of strategic land use plans, strategies, and policies. As well as undertaking leading edge research which includes reviews of data analysis and community consultation outcomes.
Ability to think strategically and apply strategy to operational implementation and work effectively and productively within a self-managed team environment as well as supporting the continued development of Council’s development forecasting and capacity model.
Support the project management of assigned strategic projects, including supervision of junior planners, managing consultants, consultancy studies, and meeting set timeframes. You will coordinate and/or participate in community consultation programs.

About you
Naturally, you’ll be passionate about the Sunshine Coast and interested in shaping its future. You will have demonstrated ability to investigate, analyse and contribute to strategic land use plans, strategies, and policies, including identifying key issues and assessing impacts of major strategic projects, in accordance with the requirements of Queensland planning legislation, the SEQ Regional Plan and other relevant State planning instruments.
You will have extensive experience in the overall structure and operation of a large local government, the political environment, and its role in environmental sustainability and growth management.
You will possess demonstrated successful experience in land use planning, analysis, investigation and strategy development relevant to strategic planning including proficiency in project management to define and negotiate project scope, methodology, resourcing, statistical and technical data analysis.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with particular emphasis in the areas of building effective relationships, consultation, negotiation, conflict resolution and assertiveness in order to resolve issues and meet changing organisational needs.
Experience in public speaking and presentation skills for the delivery of high-level strategic planning.
As a requirement of this role, you will have a recognised tertiary qualification that satisfies membership status (or eligibility to become a member) of the ACG´ÎÔªÍø.
Appointment to this position is subject to the satisfactory completion of a Criminal History Check.
